It’s a free and no-obligation way to help protect you and your pet from the costs of unexpected or emergency trips to the vet (up to a total of $2,000*) for these first few weeks while you get your head around things.
If your new puppy or kitten gets accidentally injured or develops an illness within the 6 week period, you’ll be reimbursed for eligible vet treatment costs up to $2000, less a $100 excess for each separate illness or injury and a 5-day stand down period for illness.

By signing up for a new FreeCover policy by Southern Cross Pet Insurance (SCPI) during the Promotional Period, you are automatically entered into the SCPI ‘Win 1 of 10 $250 Animates gift cards’ prize draw (“Prize Draw”) and your eligible entry constitutes acceptance of the following terms and conditions:
- The promotional period is 16 March to 14 April 2026 inclusive (“Promotional Period”).
- To enter the Prize Draw, you must sign up for and be issued a FreeCover policy by SCPI during the Promotional Period.
- There are ten (10) $250 Animates gift cards to be won (Prizes).
- The Prize Draw will take place on Tuesday, 21 April 2026.
- The 10 Prize winners will be drawn at random from the eligible entries, and the 10 winners will initially be notified by email using the details provided to SCPI. If contact cannot be made in the initial attempt, up to two further attempts will be made to notify that Prize winner by either email or telephone. If contact cannot be established with one or more of the Prize winners by email or phone within 1 month of the Prize Draw, that Prize will be re-drawn.
- Each Prize will be issued subject to and in accordance with these terms and conditions and any Animates Gift Card terms and conditions, including the requirement for the gift card to be redeemed by the expiry date on the gift card. See https://www.animates.co.nz/gift-card.html.
- The Prizes are non-transferable, non-refundable, non-exchangeable and not redeemable for cash. SCPI may substitute the Prizes with alternative prizes of equivalent value without notice.
- The administrator of the Prize Draw is SCPI.
- SCPI’s decision is final.
- To the extent permitted by law SCPI makes no warranty or guarantee in relation to the Prizes. Nothing in these terms and conditions is intended to limit or exclude any liability under the Consumer Guarantee Act 1993 or any other statutory rights that any Prize winner may have in relation to the prizes.
- Except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, SCPI (and its officers, employees and agents) excludes all liability for any direct, indirect, special or consequential loss, damage or injury arising in any way in connection with the Prize Draw or acceptance or use of any prize.
- Staff, contractors or agents of SCPI and other Southern Cross branded businesses and their immediate families are not eligible to enter or win the Prize Draw.
- SCPI may use any personal information collected during the Prize Draw to administer the Prize Draw.
- Personal information collected in relation to the Prize Draw will be held by SCPI, Level 1, Te Kupenga, 155 Fanshawe Street, Auckland 1010. Subjects of personal information have the right to access and request correction of any personal information held about them in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020.
