These Southern Cross Pet Insurance partner discount terms and conditions (partner discount terms) set out who is eligible and how we will apply the partner discount we make available to New Zealand vets, vet staff and breeders.

You will notice that some words in these discount terms are in italics, like this. These words have specific meanings. They are defined in 3 below.

By purchasing or renewing a Southern Cross Pet Insurance policy which has a partner discount applied, you agree to and are bound by these partner discount terms.

For a partner discount to be applied to your premium, you must meet the specific partner discount eligibility criteria – see below.

The partner discount and any other discount that we have applied to your policy are noted in the footnote of your policy premium chart, which forms part of your welcome or renewal pack.

These discount terms are subject to change at any time without notice.

How we apply discounts

Where you are eligible for any Southern Cross Pet Insurance discount/s, we apply these discounts one at a time to calculate the premium you will pay. This means that if you are eligible for more than one Southern Cross Pet Insurance discount, we will apply your first discount to the full amount of the premium to calculate your discounted premium, we will apply any second discount to your discounted premium to calculate your further discounted premium, and then any third discount will be applied to your further discounted premium, in turn.

The partner discount is available to Southern Cross Pet Insurance policyholders who tell us that they are a practicing vet, vet staff or a cat or dog breeder.

You must call us on 0800 800 836 and speak to one of our staff to confirm your eligibility criteria for the partner discount.

The following specific discount terms apply to the partner discount:

Partner discount eligibility criteria

• you are the named policyholder noted on your certificate of insurance
• you have a current PetCare or AcciPet policy for a pet named on your certificate of insurance
• you tell us that you are entitled to the partner discount because you are a practicing vet, vet staff (for example a vet nurse) or a cat or dog breeder.

How much is the partner discount?
The partner discount is 10%.

How and when we apply the partner discount

• If you tell us you are a practicing vet, vet staff or a cat or dog breeder when you apply for a PetCare or AcciPet policy, we will apply the partner discount once your policy commences.
• If you already have an existing PetCare or AcciPet policy and tell us that you are a practising vet, vet staff or a dog or cat breeder (because you have subsequently been employed at a vet practice, established a breeding business, or because you did not tell us when you applied for a PetCare or AcciPet policy that you were a practising vet, vet staff or breeder), we will apply the partner discount at your next policy renewal.

How and when we remove the partner discount
If at any time you no longer meet the eligibility criteria for the partner discount (for example, you no longer work as a practising vet, vet staff or a breeder) you must tell us. We will remove your partner discount at your next policy renewal.

In these partner discount terms words that are in italics have specific legal meanings:

• certificate of insurance means the certificate providing confirmation that we have issued a policy to you and setting out specific details of your policy and includes any replacement certificate we might issue you
• policy, policies means the contract/s of insurance between you and us
• policyholder means the person named on the certificate of insurance as policyholder
• renewal means when we renew your policy (and issue you with a new certificate of insurance) at the end of each twelve (12) month period, or earlier if we need to issue you with a replacement certificate of insurance due to a change, we (or you) have made to your policy.
• you, your means the policyholder of a Southern Cross Pet Insurance policy
• we, our, us means Southern Cross Pet Insurance Limited
