These Southern Cross staff discount terms and conditions (staff discount terms) set out who is eligible and how we will apply the staff discount we make available to employees of eligible Southern Cross entities. Terms that are in bold type have specific meanings and are defined below.

By purchasing or renewing a Southern Cross Pet Insurance policy which has a staff discount applied, you agree to and are bound by these discount terms.

1. About the Southern Cross Pet Insurance staff discount terms

For a staff discount to be applied to your Southern Cross Pet Insurance premium, you must meet the specific staff discount eligibility criteria – see below.

Discounts that we have applied to your policy are noted on your invoice, which is included in your welcome pack or annual policy renewal information.

Where you are eligible for any Southern Cross Pet Insurance discount/s, we apply these discounts one at a time to calculate the premium you will pay. This means that if  you are eligible for more than one Southern Cross Pet Insurance discount, we will apply your first discount to the full amount of the Southern Cross Pet Insurance premium to calculate your discounted premium, we will apply any second discount to your discounted Southern Cross Pet Insurance premium, and then any third discount will be applied to your further discounted Southern Cross Pet Insurance premium, in turn.

These discount terms are subject to change at any time without notice. We can change or remove this discount at any time without notice.

2. Staff discount

The staff discount is available to employees of eligible Southern Cross entities who tell us that they are an employee of an eligible Southern Cross entity.

You must call us on 0800 800 836 and speak to one of our staff to confirm your eligibility criteria for the staff discount.

The following specific discount terms apply to the staff discount:

Staff discount eligibility criteria

  • you are the named policyholder on your certificate of insurance
  • you have a current PetCare or AcciPet policy for a pet named on your certificate of insurance
  • you tell us that you are entitled to the staff discount because you are an employee of an eligible Southern Cross entity.

How much is the staff discount?
The staff discount is 15%, so reduces your Southern Cross Pet Insurance policy premium by 15%.

How and when we apply the staff discount

  • If you tell us you are an employee of an eligible Southern Cross entity when you apply for a PetCare or AcciPet policy, we will apply the staff discount once your policy commences.
  • If you already have an existing PetCare or AcciPet policy and tell us that you are an employee of an eligible Southern Cross entity (because you have subsequently been employed, or because you did not tell us when you applied for a PetCare or AcciPet policy that you were an employee of an eligible Southern Cross entity, we will apply the staff discount at your next policy renewal.

How and when we remove the staff discount
The staff discount is applicable for as long as your current Southern Cross Pet Insurance policy is active. 

3. Important points to note

In these staff discount terms words that are in bold have specific meanings:

  • employee/s of an eligible Southern Cross entity means a permanent full time or part time employee of Southern Cross Pet Insurance Limited, Southern Cross Medical Care Society or Southern Cross Benefits Limited.
  • certificate of insurance means the certificate providing confirmation that we have issued a policy to you and setting out specific details of your policy and includes any replacement certificate we might issue you
  • policy, policies means the contract/s of insurance between you and us
  • policyholder means the person named on the certificate of insurance as policyholder
  • renewal means when we renew your policy (and issue you with a new certificate of insurance) at the end of each twelve (12) month period, or earlier if we need to issue you with a replacement certificate of insurance due to a change, we (or you) have made to your policy.
  • you, your means the policyholder of a Southern Cross Pet Insurance policy
  • we, our, us or Southern Cross Pet Insruance means Southern Cross Pet Insurance Limited
